Extending your family
Sarah and Brad’s story
From the time Sarah and Brad began fostering, they felt strongly about keeping kids safely connected with their families, anticipating reunification. When Sarah drove children to their parent visits, she made a point to shake the parents’ hands and bring letters she'd written, sharing a little about their family and assuring parents their goal was to keep their children safe.
This care for children’s family members didn’t stop when reunification was no longer possible for three of the children in their care. While adoption from foster care added children to their family, it also added extended family with biological parents and siblings who are part of their lives. In this video, they share why maintaining family connection matters, particularly for older children like their daughter, Jasmine.
