Bethany: A place of refuge
The story behind Bethany's name
Founded in 1944, Bethany Christian Services was named for the biblical town of Bethany, just outside Jerusalem. Jesus had friends in Bethany—Mary, Martha, and Lazarus—who opened their home to him. He was loved there. Welcomed there. And he received rest there, away from the city crowds.
Our founders, Mary and Marguerite, wanted Bethany to be a place where followers of Jesus would continue offering love, welcome, and refuge to children and families who need it most. Their legacy continues today.
