Bethany Christian Services Statement on Revised Refugee Resettlement Ceiling

May 04, 2021

Grand Rapids, MI– Bethany Christian Services released the following statement after President Biden’s announcement that he will raise the refugee resettlement ceiling for FY21 to 62,500 from the historic low of 15,000:

“Raising the cap on refugee admissions to 62,500 is the right thing to do,” said Chris Palusky, President and CEO of Bethany Christian Services. “It’s an ambitious goal but a necessary step in the right direction to rebuild the resettlement program, bringing hope to thousands of vulnerable refugees around the globe.”

The United States Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP) is a life-saving program providing protection to some of the world’s most vulnerable people who have been forced from their homes due to violence, religious persecution, and natural disasters. Refugees have an important history in communities throughout the United States as business leaders, community leaders, and citizens who share their talents, culture, and traditions with their neighbors.

“Refugees are the brothers and sisters we are called to serve,” Palusky added. “There is a large community of Christian churches and nonprofits who are ready, willing, and eager to live out our biblical call of restoring welcome to the thousands of refugees who have been promised safety and protection in the United States.”
