Bethany Christian Services Statement on Patrick Lyoya’s Death

Grand Rapids, MI– Bethany Christian Services grieves the death of Patrick Lyoya and mourns with his family, friends, and the Congolese Community in Grand Rapids. We believe God created Patrick in his image and loved him deeply; his death is a tragedy.
Bethany has the great privilege of walking alongside Congolese families as they resettle in the U.S. Many have come to West Michigan fleeing violence, danger, and oppression in hopes of finding safety and reuniting with their families. We lament that the Congolese community experienced violence in the land where they sought refuge and protection.
As followers of Jesus, we are committed to walking alongside Congolese families who are grieving and seeking support. We call for transparency around this tragic event and pray for peace, equity, and unity in our community. Everyone deserves to be safe, valued, and heard.
