Bethany Christian Services Applauds End of Title 42, Urges Biden Administration and Congress to Act

April 28, 2023

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Bethany Christian Services today released the following statement in response to the Department of Homeland Security and Department of State’s “New Actions to Manage Regional Migration”.

“Bethany Christian Services has long advocated for the end of Title 42, an inhumane policy that resulted in millions of migrants being expelled from the United States without legal due process. We welcome the Biden administration’s expansion of lawful pathways through new regional processing centers and are pleased that new case management services will be available for those seeking asylum, yet we remain concerned about the administration limiting asylum options at the border, as well as its increased use of expedited removal, which limits asylum seeker’s access to basic due process.” said Liz van Zyl, Vice President of Government Affairs for Bethany Christian Services. “Bethany urges Congress to provide robust supplemental funds in response to the administration’s announcement in order to support systems that support both refugees and asylum seekers, and continues calling on Congress to pass bipartisan immigration reform that balances the need for secure borders and also protects the fundamental, God-given rights of every man, woman, and child seeking safety from harm.”
