Bethany Christian Services Announces New Director in New Jersey and New York

Fair Lawn, NJ— Bethany Christian Services, an international nonprofit that is changing the world through family, named Maria Mahtani as the new director of its New Jersey and New York branches. She will oversee all of Bethany’s programs at both locations. Mahtani has over 20 years of experience in working with children and families. She is taking over the branch director role from Yesenia Fermin, who now serves as the director of culture and belonging at Bethany.
“Maria has been a mentor and a blessing to me throughout her years as a volunteer, Bethany board member, and a trusted friend,” said Fermin. “I am looking forward to witnessing the many great things God will do through her as she walks alongside the children and families we serve.”
Mahtani joined Bethany Christian Services in May 2021.
“Maria has extensive experience positively impacting the lives of children,” said Luke Delavergne, Vice President of regional operations at Bethany. “Her commitment to serve as the board chair before taking on a full-time role with Bethany displays her level of dedication to this work.”
Prior to her new role, Mahtani served as a volunteer and board member at Bethany’s Fair Lawn, New Jersey branch. She was later voted in as board chair, working closely with Fermin. She has also served as a psychotherapist, providing individual and group therapy to children in an outpatient program, and has experience in non-profit management and administration. Most recently, she became an adoptive mother to a teenage son. She obtained a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Montclair State University and a master’s degree from Nyack College, Alliance Graduate School of Counseling.
“I’m grateful to be part of the Bethany team and I am committed to our mission of supporting vulnerable kids and families,” said Mahtani. “I am excited to work alongside staff, Bethany board members, and our church and community partners, and I look forward to building new relationships in the community with others who are passionate about keeping children safe, loved and connected.”
