Opportunity Details

Refugee youth from all over the world find their way to Grand Rapids, Michigan.  We have wrap around services for these youth who often come here unaccompanied from the border or as a refugee minor.  Some have been reunified with their loved ones, found forever families, while others have joined a community of support.  Many of the youth seeking a community mentor are teens.  A mentor is someone that follows them throughout their journey, is in tune to their needs and can advocate for them.

Our staff is equipped to offer training and resources for anyone who wants to be matched with a refugee youth. By working with the a mentor coordinator, social workers and counselors, a volunteer matched with one teen has the tools needed to give additional support.

If you are interested in supporting a youth through a mentoring relationship we have a few important requirements to get started:
*A one year commitment once matched with a youth
*Mentors are asked to spend 4 hours a month with their mentee
*Agree to stay in contact (at least monthly) with Bethany staff during length of mentor relationship
*Complete an application and undergo background screenings and training

If you are 21 year or older and would like to explore a mentor opportunity, please contact our volunteer services team at [email protected]
