What’s ahead for Bethany around the world
What’s ahead for Bethany around the world
The future is in-country
Opportunities for vulnerable children overseas are changing. That’s why the future of adoption is in a child’s own country. To prepare for coming changes, Bethany has decided not to renew our intercountry adoption accreditation when it expires on March 31, 2021.
We’re going all-in, spearheading international efforts to change the emphasis from bringing children to the U.S. to finding adoptive families for children in their home countries.
Support Bethany’s growth around the world
Partner with us as we establish more foster care and adoption services around the world and give children the opportunity to grow up with loving families in their own communities.
Preserving and empowering families
Family-based care is a proven solution to protect vulnerable children around the world. Through these programs, Bethany’s local staff ensure every child is loved, connected, and safe.
Family preservation
When families face obstacles, sponsorship helps them grow stronger. Our sponsorship and job training programs give parents tools and resources they need to become self-sufficient and keep their families together. We will continue recruiting sponsors to provide families with the tools they need to become self-sufficient.
Foster care
Because of poverty, illness, war, or abandonment, many orphans and vulnerable children around the world do not live with their families of origin. Bethany will continue to implement programs in more than a dozen countries that recruit and support temporary foster families, so that children remain in families rather than institutions.
Adoption
We see amazing transformations when a child grows up in a family rather than an institution. That’s why we partner with local churches, communities, and governments to identify, train, and support adoptive families to be the answer for children in need.
International adoptions have declined
The U.S. Department of State reported a 75% decline in international adoption from 2005 to 2015. That means the total number of international adoptions dropped from 22,726 adoptions in 2005 to just 5,647 in 2015. That number dropped even further in 2018 to just 4,058.
Today, many children who can’t be cared for by their own families are being adopted into loving homes in their country of birth, and Bethany is helping lead many of these efforts
