Ukraine
Ukraine is a large country situated between Russia and the Black Sea that achieved its independence from the former Soviet Union in 1991.
Bethany Social Services (BSS) of Ukraine, located in Kyiv, was established in 1998 after Bethany began providing humanitarian and social services to orphanages in 1997. Today, BSS is a nationally recognized leader that provides social services and training.
BSS is involved in national efforts to improve the standards of orphanage care and other
social services.
BSS has trained hundreds of citizens working in social services, including judges, government and non-governmental organization social workers, university students, and church staff. A BSS-initiated church coalition is gaining recognition in Ukraine as a viable resource for direct services and community outreach.
BSS has also been involved in youth education programs, including an independent living skills training program for youth about to “age out” of orphanages.
Its main focus today is to provide a range of Family Support Services to preserve families. These Family Support Services include:
- Family assessment and supportive case management
- Individual counseling
- Family financial assistance (through International Sponsorship)
- Assistance by trained family-support volunteers
- Accessing the network of community assistance
BSS also addresses the problem of family violence. It not only provides individual assistance but informs the general public about
this issue.
BSS strongly believes in partnering with a variety of government and non-governmental organizations to fulfill mutual objectives. Today, BSS enjoys a reputation for providing quality, professional social services and for improving the nation’s social systems.
