2009 Global Children’s Initiative
The Global Children’s Initiative will enable Bethany to respond swiftly to crises and opportunities that impact the well-being of children around the world. The primary objective of the Initiative is to both establish new programs designed to meet specific needs and/or to implement our proven and most effective programs wherever they are most needed.

Uniting Passion with Resources
to Change a Child’s World
Together with faithful partners who provide prayer support, opportunities, resources, and leadership, we plan to enhance our global efforts. Over time, we hope to create within the global community a new view of the value of life that leads to the protection and care of all children.

An Overwhelming Worldwide Need
It is estimated that there are more than 143 million orphaned children in the world today–and that by the year 2010, approximately 50 million children will be orphans living in sub-Saharan Africa. No country, including the U.S., is exempt from this epidemic that is eroding the health and well-being of children everywhere. Key contributors to this crisis include poverty, HIV/AIDS, war, and the exploitation of children. As a global society, we have yet to fully realize the social and economic ramifications of this growing epidemic. Without intervention, this trend may result in increased crime, wars, and discrimination.

An Ambitious Goal
As Bethany celebrates 65 years of protecting and caring for orphaned and vulnerable children, our focus has rested on destroying the very root of the orphan crisis. We believe that the best solution is to provide appropriate assistance and tools to families and communities around the world that will empower them to care for their own children. Bethany’s goal is to fulfill the Biblical mandate to restore and strengthen the family. We believe that God created families not only to nurture children, but to reveal Himself as Father to mankind.

A Formula for the Miraculous
As people of faith, we know that God often displays His power when the “odds” do not appear to be in our favor. He specializes in adding His power to our limited resources to produce miracles. A great “multiplication” concept is illustrated clearly in Matthew 14 when Jesus responded to an impossible need to feed a crowd of more than 5,000 people. After asking for help and receiving five loaves and two fish, Jesus blessed the resources and began to feed all the people! Bethany has also experienced miraculous results as we combine prayer, partnerships, and financial gifts to change the world for thousands of children.
