Types of Adoption
Within domestic infant adoption, there are several different types of adoption relationships. Expectant parents who are considering an adoption plan need to ask themselves, "What kind of relationship do we want to have with our child's adoptive family?" In the same way, potential adoptive parents need to consider what type of long-term relationship will be best for them and their newly adopted child. The best way to answer these questions is to learn as much as you can about the three options for adoption plans:
open, semi-open, or confidential.
Historically, adoptions were completely confidential. During the l980s, there was a move toward including openness in adoptions. Although most adoptions are now semi-open with very positive results, no one plan is right for each circumstance. Bethany staff will be happy to meet and talk with you about your situation and to help determine the best plan for you.
